Paphos is one of the six cities of Cyprus, the capital of the homonymous province, one of the six provinces of the island also. The city is built on the western tip of Cyprus near the sea, and is the oldest known city on the island face. Another great kingdom in the southwest of Cyprus was Paphos, which has seen great glory as the capital of the island during the Hellenistic period. Full of beautiful buildings, palaces, temples surrounded by walls to protect a piece of the kingdom of the Ptolemies but until the period of Turkish rule that has seen perhaps the decline to a greater extent than other cities on the island. From 1974 until today Paphos brilliant again is a great tourist destination with beautiful beaches and archeological treasures. The town of Paphos has two levels of Paphos and Kato Paphos which is the tourist part of town. On the one hand, it is perhaps a traditional and picturesque town with its ancient monuments such as the Tomb of
Kings and the mosaics and the other a purely tourist destination with plenty of hotels on the beach, restaurants, bars and clubs. The nightlife in Paphos starts at ten in the night where people are pouring into night clubs, the pubs, bars and clubs to enjoy refreshing cocktails and dance. One of the most famous beach in Paphos is Coral beach with golden sand. The baths of Aphrodite is a point worth visiting. Rock of Romios, located just outside of Paphos and is another of the attractions, as well as the Museum of Popular Art, the Church of St. George, the sea caves. Close to Paphos are well-known town of Polis, Crete Terra with incredible sights and the Akamas an ecological park, the beautiful Latchi beach. |
