General Terms and Conditions
Car Pick-up: To pick up the car, the driver needs to show an original ID or passport, an original driver's license and a credit / debit card to pay for the rental and the guarantee.
Age requirements: For all groups, minimum driver's age is 25 years of age and maximum is 80. Drivers aged between 21 and 24, are allowed to rent groups A, B, J and K after they accept Yound Driver's Surcharge of 6€/rental day (maximum charge is 10 days) and under the condition that they hold a valid driver's license for at least 1 year prior to the pickup date.
Drivers between 71-80 years of age are subject to an additional surcharge of 6€/rental day (maximum charge is 10 days).
Payment method: The driver must hold a valid credit or debit card accepted by Thrifty for all necessary pre-authorization amounts as well as pre-payments and settlement of final rental charges.
Deposit for Guarantee: Upon pick up of the vehicle, Thrifty will preauthorize an amount from the driver's credit card as a deposit for guarantee which will be fully refunded at the end of the rental, provided no other charges arise. Please note that the refund can take up to 14 days, depending on the issuing bank of the credit card. The amount of the deposit varies according to the car group. Specifically:
- A, B, J, K: €300
- C, D, M: €550
Grace period: Detailed instructions on car pick-up will be provided for each Supplier location. At the end of the agreed rental period, Supplier allows a grace period of 29 minutes free of charge after which the customer will be charged with a minimum of one full day rental.
Early Return / Extension of rental: No refund for any unused voucher value / rental days. Ongoing rental extension should be arranged with Thrifty Cyprus at least 48 hours before the intended/reserved rental expiry, to be charged as per valid retail tariff.
Traffic Fines: Will be paid by the renter. If not, Thrifty will pay them and will charge the customer with the full amount of traffic fine plus the Incident Administration Fee, 25€ per case, in order to cover all administration expenses.
Insurance: Covers the rented vehicle for claims from property damage and third-party personal injury or death to the amounts specified by Cypriot Law. Coverages are subject to General Terms of insurance contract with its insurer.
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW): The renters liability for damage to the rented vehicle can be reduced, as per Rental Agreement's term and conditions, to minimum charge of 700€ for Groups A, B, J, K, 850€ and for Groups C, D, M by purchasing the additional daily fee of 15 € and 18 € respectively. Damage to the underside of the car, the wheels & tires or loss of the vehicle's keys/car documents are not covered.
Super Collision Damage Waiver: Can be accepted only after acceptance of Collision Damage Waiver (CDW). Liability may in no case be restricted or cancelled at partial theft, loss of parts, accessories, documents, at damage to tires and any other part on the undercarriage of the vehicle. The renter may reduce the above liability to a minimum charge of 175€ for Groups A, B, J, K, 250€ and for Groups C, D, M by purchasing the additional daily fee of €12, and €16 respectively.
Super Cover (SC): The renter can be covered (with zero excess) in case of total theft or damage to the Thrifty vehicle, provided that the renter has previously accepted the relevant coverage charges for CDW, SCDW, and TP, or has a reservation inclusive of these coverages, by paying additionally a daily fee of €8 for Groups A, B, J, K, and €10 for Groups C, D, M.
The following cases are not covered: Damage to the underside of the car, the wheels & tyres, broken car glass or loss of the vehicle keys and documents; burnt clutch; any damage due to the lack of oil or as a result of usage of incorrect fuel; damage to vehicle by being blasted, mined, or intentionally burned; damage caused due to influence by alcohol or drugs; damage caused by an unauthorized driver.
Theft Protection (TP): Theft protection is a service which if accepted reduces the renter's liability in case of vehicle theft for Groups A, B, J, K, 700 €, and for Groups C, D, M, 850€ by paying an additional daily fee of 8 €, 10 € and 23 € respectively.
Personal Accident Coverage (PAC): For a daily charge of €5 (with a maximum charge of 15 days), driver and passengers are covered Insures driver and passengers in case of an accident involving rented vehicle. Amounts insured are in accordance with valid terms and conditions of the insurance company.
Windscreen Protection (WSP): The renter's liability for damage on the windscreen of the car can be reduced, as per Rental Agreement's Terms & Conditions, to 0€, for a daily charge of €4 for groups A, B, J, K and €5 for groups C, D, M (with a maximum charge of 15 days).
Incident Administration Fee (IAF): In case of an accident due to the renter's liability, the renter has the obligation to pay to Thrifty a non-refundable fee of 25 € to cover administration expenses.
Additional Driver (ADR): A charge of €5 per day has to be paid for each Additional Driver (maximum charge of 10 days).
Airport Charge (ASC): The charge applicable for delivery and collection of the rental car to all airports in Cyprus is included in the rates.
Gasoline Prepayment Policy: For rental durations of 1-2 days, the customer should return the car with the same quantity of fuel as shown at the time of pickup. In the event that the customer returns it with less quantity, the customer will be charged the value of the missing fuel. Additionally, a Refueling Service Charge will be applied, which today is 20 €.
For rental durations of three (3) days or more, the customer is required to prepay the cost of the quantity of fuel which is in the tank of the rented car at the pickup time. Upon returning the car –and only at this time– the customer may ask to be refunded with the value of the fuel in the tank at that time. In this instance, if the quantity of fuel in the tank is less than the one the customer has prepaid, then the Refueling Service Charge will be applied, which today is 20 €. Any refund due will be processed through customer's credit/debit card.
The price per litre of fuel used is the average fuel price for the area where the car was rented. The Refueling Service Charge is 20 €, while Thrifty reserves the right to change it in the future without prior notice. Any fuel refunds, disputes etc. must be resolved with Thrifty staff at the time of the vehicle’s return. Thrifty will not consider any disputes once the final invoice has been issued. A fuel policy leaflet is available on all Thrifty Desks in five languages.
Baby Seats: Available on request with a daily charge of 5 € (maximum charge of 10 days).
GPS: Available on request with a daily charge of 9 € (maximum charge of 10 days).
Fleet Availability: Thrifty reserves the right to provide a different car model to that originally reserved of an equivalent or higher model type.
Delivery/Collection: Delivery/Collection outside Thrifty offices is available on request basis. Minimum charge for Delivery or Collection close to a Thrifty station is 25 € per Delivery/Collection. Delivery/Collection out of office hours is 30 € per case.
Taxes: All rates and charges mentioned above are subject to 19% V.A.T.
